HomeMy WebLinkAboutHC Minutes - 02.21.24HEALTH COMMITTEE SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2024 CALL TO ORDER — Mayor Pro Tern Michael Cao called the meeting to order at 5:OOpm. PRESENT: Mayor Pro Tern Michael Cao and Council Member Eileen Wang PUBLIC COMMENTS - None On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, the Health Committee met for a Special Meeting and the following guests attended: Desiree Molina, Chia-Chieh Hu, Kenneth Wogensen, Dino Clarizio, Brian Green, Chen Suen, Candice Cheung, and Sara Somogyi. Mayor Pro Tern Cao and Council Member Wang thanked everyone for a great turnout on the Health Committee's first health seminar. The first seminar was held on Wednesday, January 24, at the Arcadia Public Library with 112 attendees. Mayor Pro Tern Cao confirmed the speaker for February 28, will be Dr. Ray Matthews, MD, from USC Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Matthews will speak on heart disease at the Museum Education Center (MEC) at 6pm. Mayor Pro Tern Cao confirmed Kenneth K. Wogensen MD, will be the guest speaker on March 27, at 6pm, at the Arcadia Public Library. Dr. Wogensen will speak on headaches and migraines. Mayor Pro Tern Cao confirmed the seminar on April 24, will be held at the MEC at 6pm. On April 24, the special guest speakers will talk about treating developmental delays and pediatric disabilities. Registration is required prior to attending all seminars. Mayor Pro Tern Cao requested that flyers be updated to indicate the public may register in person by 5:45pm, promptly followed by the seminar at 6pm. Mayor Pro Tern Cao reported there will be a certified Chinese translator at the seminars. Sara Somogyi said there will be 40 headsets available. Sara Somogyi reminded everyone that presentations for future seminars will have to be available one week prior to the seminar in order for the translation team to study the material and learn the terminology prior to each seminar. Sara Somogyi reported the March health seminar flyer will be advertised in the March Connection Newsletter and the April seminar flyer will be advertised in the Arcadia Hot Sheet. Arcadia Fire Chief Suen informed Mayor Pro Tern Cao and Council Member Wang the fire code maximum capacity is 70 people at the MEC. If more people show up, they will have to be turned away. Mayor Pro Tern Cao and Council Member Wang agreed to change the Health Committee meeting day due to Council Member Wang's commitment on the Board of Directors at USC Arcadia Hospital and meetings would conflict. The Health Committee meetings will be held the first Wednesday of the month at 5pm starting March 6, 2024. Lastly, Mayor Pro Tern Cao and Council Member Wang are looking to hold the Health Fair on Saturday, August 10, from 9am to 12pm at the Arcadia Community Center. Council Member Wang said there is still time to figure out the organization of the health fair and plan on a list of providers to invite to the health fair.
