PRESENT: Mayor Pro Tem Michael Cao and Council Member Eileen Wang PUBLIC COMMENTS - None On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the Health Committee met for a Special Meeting and the following guests attended: Chia-Chieh Hu, Tracy Joseph, Diane Daniels, Dino Clarizio, David Ratto, Emily Buchanan, Clifford Daniels, Jane Kim, Sara Somogyi, and Desiree Molina via zoom. Director of Recreation and Community Services Department Sara Somogyi (DRCSD) handed out an estimated budget sheet for the upcoming Health Fair. Mayor Pro Tem Cao discussed having sponsors for the health fair and hopes to get feedback or a response by June 1. DRCSD Somogyi reported that Natalie Romero from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles informed her they will not be able to sponsor. Clifford Daniels from USC Arcadia Hospital offered to donate giveaway bags. There was discussion on the type of sponsorship levels, who should be recognized, type of organizations, sponsorship levels, translation needs, and the cost of a booth. Mayor Pro Tem Cao and Council Member Wang agreed that sponsors should have their company logo on the street banner and a free booth. They also agreed that companies who want to participate at the fair should be health related and doctors who are volunteering their time and expertise should not be charged for a booth. DRCSD Somogyi stated the booth will consist of one table and two chairs. DRCSD Somogyi stated the purpose of the citywide health fair is to provide a service to the community. Mayor Pro Tem Cao and Council Member Wang stated they would like to maximize the number of booths at the fair. DRCSD Somogyi handed out a sample floor plan with 38 booths inside the Community Center ballroom and reminded everyone that Arcadia Fire Chief Suen will have to review the floor plan in order to advise and indicated how many people and booths will be allowed for safety purposes. Once we confirm what types of booths we are having and where they will be located. Mayor Pro Tem Cao and Council Member Wang stated there are three goals they are looking to achieve. The first goal is to have free consultations. The second goal is to have health and dental doctors available. The third goal is to provide health education. Jane Kim from Keck Medicine of USC confirmed she will be able to provide four different types of screenings at the health fair and Disiree Molina from USC Arcadia Hospital confirmed she will be able to provide a dental screening. DRCSD Somogyi suggested there should not be duplicate services and everyone agreed. Mayor Pro Tem Cao asked for a list of screenings they should have available at the health fair by the next meeting. DRCSD Somogyi said she will email everyone. DRCSD Somogyi also provided everyone with a sample of the street banner and talked about the wording on the banner. The more information there is on the banner, the less visible it is. Cliff Daniels suggested the banner should only have the event name, date, and location. Mayor Pro Tem Cao adjourned the special meeting at 6:00pm to the next regularly scheduled meeting on June 5, at 5:00pm in the Recreation Conference Room, 375 Campus Drive, Arcadia. _______________________________ _______________________________ Mayor Pro Tem Michael Cao City Council Member Eileen Wang
