HomeMy WebLinkAboutAB Minutes: 05/09/2024ARCADIA BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES MAY 9, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. CALL TO ORDER — Vice Chairperson Laczko called the meeting to order at 3:31 p.m. in the Council Chambers Conference Room. ROLL CALL OF COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Ethel Laczko, Gary Brewer, Barbara Lyle, Sheryl Hunter, Robert Miller,. Vivien Watts ABSENT: Burton Brink It was the consensus of the Commission that Chairperson Brink be excused from this meeting. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM STAFF REGARDING AGENDA ITEMS Staff Liaison Bruno shared that the planned judging date for the Holiday Awards (December 12, 2024), which was selected at the February 8, Meeting, is now in conflict with the Arcadia Employee Holiday Event. Staff Liaison Bruno requested the Commission consider amending the date of the Winter Holiday judging, which they agreed to. It was the consensus of the Commission that the Holiday Award judging would occur on the evening of Wednesday, December 11, 2024. 1. PUBLIC COMMENTS - None 2. CONSENT CALENDAR P. Approve the Meeting Minutes of February 8 2024 Recommended Action: Approve Commissioners reviewed the minutes and noted a typo in the date that was referenced for the Spring Home Awards judging. Staff Liaison Bruno stated that she would make that correction to the minutes to reflect May 9 as the date and not May 6, as indicated. With that change, it was moved by Commissioner Lyle, seconded by Commissioner Brewer, and carried on a roll call vote to approve the minutes. AYES: Lyle, Brewer, Hunter, Miller, Watts, Laczko NOES: None ABSENT: Brink 3. REPORT FROM COMMISSIONERS Commissioner Miller spoke about his grandson, Bryce Stevens, receiving a Mayor's Certificate and recognition for his video work to capture the Holiday Awards at the March 5, City Council Meeting. Commissioner Miller also spoke about the tree trimming practices of SoCal Edison. He suggested that their practices be monitored, as he can recall several trees that were trimmed by Edison and were deceased shortly after, due to improper trimming practices. Vice Chairperson Laczko suggested that Arcadia enhance its Arbor Day Celebrations and increase its efforts to a week-long celebration. Staff Liaison Bruno said she would take that suggestion under advisement. Vice Chairperson Laczko expressed her appreciation for the prompt response exhibited by the City's Code Enforcement team. She indicated the level of responsiveness and resolution to issues reported is commendable. 4. REGULAR ITEMS a. Conduct Final Judging for the 2024 Spring Awards. A total of 28 properties were evaluated by the Commission.
