Under the Brown Act, the Health Committee is prohibited from discussing or taking action on any item not listed on the posted agenda. The matter may automatically be referred to staff for appropriate response or action or may be placed on the agenda of a future meeting. REPORTS FROM HEALTH COMMITTEEE MEMBERS 2.CONSENT CALENDAR All matters listed under the Consent Calendar are considered to be routine and can be acted on by one roll call vote. There will be no separate discussion of these items unless members of the Commission, staff, or the public request that a specific item be removed from the Consent Calendar for separate discussion and action. HEALTH COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING MINUTES June 5, 2024 CALL TO ORDER – Mayor Pro Tem Michael Cao called the meeting to order at 5:05pm. PRESENT: Mayor Pro Tem Michael Cao and Council Member Eileen Wang SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM STAFF REGARDING AGENDA ITEMS - None 1. PUBLIC COMMENTS - None 2. CONSENT CALENDAR a. Approve regular meeting minutes of March 6, 2024. Recommended Action: Approve It was moved by Mayor Pro Tem Cao seconded by Council Member Wang to approve Consent Calendar Item 2.a. 3. REGULAR ITEMS a. Discussion on Health Seminars On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the Health Committee met for their regularly scheduled meeting . Their last regular scheduled meeting was held on March 6, 2024, with special meetings in between. The following guests attended this meeting: Chia -Chieh Hu, Tracy Joseph, Dino Clarizio, Mark Feng, Brian Green, Fei Huang, Angela Aschian, Jane Kim, Gina Hernandez, Sara Somogyi, and Desiree Molina via Zoom. Mayor Pro Tem Cao confirmed the next Health Seminar will take place on Wednesday, June 26, at 6pm, at the Arcadia Public Library. The guest speaker will be Dr. Mark I. Feng. Dr. Feng will speak on benign prostatic hyperplasia, the symptoms, diagnosis, and available treatments. Director of Recreation and Community Services Department, Sara Somogyi (DRCSD) followed up by confirming July and August flyers and seminars have been prepared and location for seminars confirmed, however, September and October seminars have not been scheduled. DRCSD Somogyi also mentioned there will be no Health Seminars in November and December due to the dates falling during holidays. b. Discussion on the Health Fair Council Member Wang asked if there have been any inquiries on sponsorships for the upcoming Health Fair. DRCSD Somogyi responded by saying Keck Medicine of USC, Kaiser, and Huntington Health have offered to sponsor. Sponsors are contributing $2,000 each. DRCSD Somogyi said Children’s Hospital will not be able to sponsor at this time. Mayor Pro Tem Cao asked to have bags available for the public. Everyone at the meeting agreed it will be a nice gift. DRCSD Somogyi responded by saying she will place an order for tote bags with the City logo. DRCSD Somogyi said if there is an excess of bags, they can always be used for future health events. It was further discussed and agreed by Mayor Pro Tem Cao and Council Member Wang the street banner should have the logos of all those who are sponsoring. It was also discussed and agreed that non-sponsors will pay $300 for their booth which includes one table and two chairs. Mayor Pro Tem Cao and Council Member Wang asked for everyone’s input and opinions on ideas for the type of screenings, specialists, and general services that should be provided at the health fair. Everyone had plenty of ideas such as head and neck screenings, dental clinic or mobile van, eye exams, hearing screening, pharmacist information booth, lectures, and special guest speakers. There was also discussion on whether or not lunch will be provided and who will get lunch. There will be water and fruit provided for the public. DRCSD Somogyi said she will need to compile a list with final decisions on those who will be providing screenings and services at the health fair. DRCSD Somogyi will work with Fire Chief Suen to approve the event set up for safety regulations. Lastly, Mayor Pro Tem Cao will make a welcome speech at the Health Fair. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 6:21 pm to a special meeting on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 5:00pm, at the Recreation Conference Room, 375 Campus Drive, Arcadia.
