PRESENT: Mayor Cao and Council Member Wang PUBLIC COMMENTS - None On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, the Health Committee met for a special meeting and the following guests attended: Dr. Chia-Chieh Hu, Dr. Dino Clarizio, Dr. Mark Feng, Brian Green, Angela Aschian, Jane Kim, Sara Somogyi, and Desiree Molina on phone speaker. Mayor Cao and Council Member Wang agreed the following seminar topics will be tentatively planned for the first three months in 2025. In January, the seminar topic could be brain injury and stroke or weight management. February is American Heart month, everyone agreed to have a topic regarding the heart. The topic for March could be diabetes. The attendees at the meeting will confirm a speaker for each month and report back to the Director of Recreation Community Services (DRCS) Sara Somogyi. Attendee Jane Kim asked if the City would consider recording or live stream monthly seminars. Attendee Brian Green said recording or streaming may become complicated, and issues may arise due to poor or slow internet service, large files that are hard to upload, and it can also be costly. DRCS Somogyi added there are also cameras, microphones, and electrical connection to consider at the Arcadia Public Library. DRCS Somogyi said she would inquire further about it and report back. Mayor Cao reminded everyone there are no health seminars in November and December. DRCSD Somogyi reported that the meeting on January 1, 2025, will have to be moved due to the holiday. The special meeting will be on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. DRCS Somogyi reported on the budget and expenditures on the 2024 Health Fair. DRCS reported the starting budget for the event was $10,000. It was estimated that over 800 people attended the event. There were ten booths at $300 per booth totaling a revenue of $3,000. There were six sponsors at $2,000 each, totaling a revenue of $12,000. There was an expense of $10,700 in total which does not include the cost of staff and facility rental. The expenses for the event included the cost of the street banner, giveaway bags and bracelets, printing of flyers, posters and program booklets, signs, water bill inserts, meals for sponsors and volunteers, face painting for children, table covers, refreshments, translation of flyers and posters, and live translation the day of the event. Mayor Cao said the date for the 2025 Health Fair will be confirmed at a later date since there is still time to plan for the event. Council Member Wang reported that some Arcadia residents do not receive the City of Arcadia Hot Sheet. DRCSD Somogyi said that the Hot Sheet is an insert in the water bill. If a resident does not receive a water bill, or lives in a complex that pays for water they would not receive the Hot Sheet, however, the information is always available on the City's website. Mayor Cao adjourned the Special Meeting at 5:24pm to the next Special Meeting on November 6, 2024, at 5:00pm in the Recreation Conference Room, 375 Campus Dr., Arcadia.
