SENIOR COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING
CALL TO ORDER — Chairperson Bolster called the meeting to order at 4:00pm.

1. PUBLIC COMMENTS - None
REPORTS FROM SENIOR CITIZENS COMMISSIONERS
Commissioner Steve Sherman reported that the Men's Club members meet every week from 9am
to 2:30pm, at the Arcadia Community Center to play pinochle.
Commissioner Shirely Curley reported everyone is busy putting away and organizing all the items
from the holiday boutique sale.
Commissioner Cynthia Salazar reported the Golden Senior Club members had a fun time
celebrating the holidays with a Christmas luncheon on December 19. Commissioner Salazar
reported the Assistance League is closed from December 26, 2024, through January 8, 2025.
Chairperson Robert Bolster asked if there was an update on Wilderness Park. Director of
Recreation and Community Services Sara Somogyi (RCSD) responded there is no update, and
she will make sure to contact Chairperson Bolster directly should any updates or information come
up.
Commissioner Margaret Swope reported the Friendship Club members are doing well and
celebrated with a holiday party on December 18, which included lunch, games, and Christmas
carols.
Vice -Chairperson Joyce Platt reported the general meeting in January will be held on Friday,
January 24. Vice -Chairperson Platt reported the new 2025 volunteer officers have been elected.
The Travelers held their annual holiday lunch at the North Woods Inn restaurant. Vice -
Chairperson Platt reported all of January through April trips and information is published in the
January Connection Newsletter. Vice -Chairperson Platt reported on the following upcoming trips:
On March 25, 2025, there will be a Masterpieces & Heritage tour in Orange County with Main
Street Tours. Participants will visit the Hilbert Museum of California Art, highlighting California's
natural beauty in 26 galleries. After lunch, participants will visit the Bowers Museum which holds
an extensive collection of art from around the world.
On April 2, 2025, there will be a Mystery Olympics Trip of the 2028 tour games with Kurt Tucker
which will take place in Los Angeles. Participants will be able to preview venues and have lunch
at a mystery location. On April 30, 2025, the That's Amore Italian Tour with Kurt Tucker will be an
all -Italian day trip, with an emphasis on the Italian culture around the city of Los Angeles.
Participants will learn about architecture, fashion, art, food, and cinema. Vice -Chairperson Platt
invited everyone to the Arcadia Women's Club to celebrate Veterans. The lunch event will be held
on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 1lam.

2. CONSENT CALENDAR
a. Regular meetinq minutes of November 7, 2024.
Recommended Action: Approve
It was moved by Vice -Chairperson Platt, seconded by Commissioner Sherman, and unanimously
carried on roll call vote to approve Consent Calendar Item 2.a.

NOES: None

3. REGULAR ITEMS
a. Report of Recreation Supervisor Annie Sumioka (RS)
Recreation Supervisor, Annie Sumioka (RS) reported on programs and events during the month
of December. On December 13, the Musical Moments program was held with a guest pianist who
played classical holiday music. On December 19, 48 of the Community Center volunteers
attended the volunteer appreciation brunch to thank them for all the work they do throughout the
year. Everyone enjoyed their new coffee mug, a nice brunch, and entertainment. On December
20, a holiday brunch event was held for senior patrons. The event included a photo with Santa
Claus, brunch, carolers, and raffle prizes.
RS Sumioka reported on upcoming programs and events. The New Years Bingo is open for
registration. The Senior Cinema program will now be held on Tuesdays at the Museum Education
Center. The next Taste the Town will be on January 16, where participants will meet at Marugame
Udon restaurant. The Senior Social Hour will be held on January 24, at 12:30pm in the lobby area
and will include refreshments.
b. Report of Recreation and Community Services Director (RCSD)
RCSD Somogyi reported a 100-year time capsule was found at Newcastle Park during
construction. RCSD Somogyi will be working together with Library Director, Darlene Bradley, to
research the best practices, to identify the location, and what rules and museum pertain to the
time capsule. RCSD Somogyi reported the Arcadia Fire Department was featured in the Rosebowl
Parade in their 1926 fire engine.
ADJOURNMENT
Chairperson Bolster adjourned the meeting at 4:26pm to Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 4:OOpm
in the Recreation Conference Room, 375 Campus Drive, Arcadia.
