SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
AUGUST 6, 2025
CALL TO ORDER - Director of Recreation and Community Services Department, Sara Somogyi
(DRCSD) called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL OF COMMISSIONERS
PRESENT: Dr. Chia-Chieh Hu, Dr. Dino Clarizio, Clifford Daniels, Dr. Mark Feng,
Desiree Molina, Dr. David Ratto, and Angela Thomassian

ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Commissioner Ratto made a motion to nominate Commissioner Dr. Clarizio as Chairperson,
seconded by Commissioner Molina. Commissioner Dr. Clarizio accepted the nomination, and
the motion was carried unanimously. Commissioner Dr. Ratto made a motion to nominate
Commissioner Dr. Feng as Vice -Chairperson, seconded by Commissioner Dr. Hu.
Commissioner Dr. Feng accepted the nomination, and the motion was carried unanimously.
a. Health Education Series Seminar Topics
DRCSD Somogyi reminded everyone the health education seminars will be held at the
Arcadia Community Center starting January 2026. The Commissioners discussed seminar
topics forJanuary through March 2026. Commissioner Daniels recommends Dr. Andrew Yun,
a Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, for the health education series seminar in January
2026. DRCSD Somogyi said Recreation Supervisor Gina Hernandez (RS) was given
information on Dr. Yun and will follow up to coordinate the seminar topic with Dr. Yun. The
group moved on to potential topics for February 2026. Commissioner Thomassian and
Commissioner Daniels said they would look into a cardiologist to speak on heart health
month in February 2026. The group discussed the next topic for March 2026.
Vice -Chairperson Dr. Feng suggested Diabetes and said he would be able to find a speaker
from Kaiser Permanente.
DRCSD Somogyi provided the new Health Commissioners copies of the Brown Act Basics for
City Boards and Commissions and other information on what the Health Commission
consists of. The Health Commission consists of seven members who will meet quarterly
everyJanuary, April, July, October, and on special meeting dates when necessary.
b. Discussion on Health Fair
DRCSD Somogyi provided each commissioner with a draft of the Health Fair booklet, the
layout map of each booth location, photos of giveaway items, flyers and posters for
distribution. DRCSD Somogyi reported there are seven confirmed sponsors. The cost of an
information booth is $300. DRCSD Somogyi asked everyone to provide her with a list of
names of individuals who will be in each booth in order to prepare a certificate for each
person and have names available when they check in. DRCSD Somogyi reported breakfast
and lunch will be provided to everyone working the event. Commissioner Thomassian
suggested promoting a daily reminder on social media with the different screenings that will
be available. Vice -Chairperson Dr. Feng reported there will be a special retinopathy eye
screening that focuses on eye problems caused by diabetes and would like to promote the
exam for the public to have an opportunity to take the test as it is beneficial to detect early
eye problems.
DRCSD Somogyi reported there will be a welcome speech by the Mayor or Mayor Pro Tem.
Everyone agreed there will be no keynote speaker this year. DRCSD Somogyi recommended
that the Commissioners be present by 9:00 a.m. and park in the Community Center parking
lot. There will be public parking at the Community Center, Holy Angels Church, and at the
Arcadia Performing Arts Center with a shuttle bus available. Mayor Pro Tem Wang suggested
extending an invitation to local politician representatives. Everyone agreed if they attend,
they should be present by 9:15 a.m. for introductions.
ADJOURNMENT
Chairperson Dr. Clarizio adjourned the special meeting at 5:57 p.m. to a special meeting on
Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., in the Recreation Conference Room, 375
Campus Drive, Arcadia.
