ROLL CALL OF COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Burton Brink, Vivien Watts, Gary Brewer, Sheryl Hunter, Bob Miller, Lisa Walton, Uyen Wong ABSENT: None SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM STAFF REGARDING AGENDA ITEMS - None 1. 2. 3. 4. PUBLIC COMMENTS - None. CONSENT CALENDAR a. Approve the Meeting Minutes of April 24, 2025 Recommended Action: Approve It was moved by Commissioner Wong, seconded by Vice Chairperson Watts, and carried on a roll call vote to approve the minutes. AYES: Wong, Watts, Brewer, Hunter, Miller, Walton, and Brink. NOES: None ABSENT: None DEBRIEF 2025 SPRING HOME AWARDS a. Discussion of any recommended changes or improvements for 2026. Commissioners Miller and Brewer expressed their interest in pushing the Spring Home Awards later into the year. Currently, the awards are presented during one of the City Council Meetings in May, so the consensus of the Commission is to aim for the second City Council Meeting in May, or first meeting in June, and delay the judging to fit that timeframe accordingly. DISCUSSION OF 2025 WATER SMART HERO AWARDS a. Review selection of Water Smart Properties. 09-16-2025 b. Water Smart Hero Awards at City Council Meeting (Date: August 19, 2025) After discussion on the drought tolerant ratings for the Spring Home Award properties, the consensus of the Commission is to create a list of homes using drought tolerant landscaping, separate and apart from the Spring Home Awards. Staff Liaison Bruno noted that many of the homes that fit into both categories (beautiful + drought tolerant), often do not achieve the level of water savings that would otherwise be recognized in Arcadia. A separate review of drought tolerant homes (by zone) may help alleviate that challenge. 5. LETTER OF SUPPORT - ARCADIA CITY HALL STORMWATER CAPTURE PROJECT a. Review request, letter template, and authorize Chair to sign. Staff Liaison Bruno provided an overview on the request from the Public Works Services Department for the proposed Stormwater Capture Project at Arcadia City Hall, and funding application to the L.A. County Flood Control District, Clean Water Program. After further discussion, it was the consensus of the Commission, excluding Commissioner Wong who abstained, to authorize Chairperson Brink to sign the letter of support for the Arcadia City Hall Stormwater Capture Project. 6. DISCUSSION OF UPCOMING MEETING SCHEDULE & NEW COMMISSIONER APPOINTMENTS a. Remaining outreach schedule b. Election of Chair and Vice Chair 1. July Regular Meeting (7/10) or October Regular Meeting (10/9) c. New Commissioners 1. Michael Cham 2. Ashish Guha 3. Karren Levine Prior to electing a new Chair and Vice Chair, the Commission and Staff Liaison Bruno discussed the various duties and responsibilities that accompany each role. After discussion, a motion was made by Vice Chairperson Watts, seconded by Commissioner Walton, and carried on a roll call vote to appoint Commissioner Gary Brewer as Chairperson for the 2025-2026 year; and reappoint Vice Chairperson Vivien Watts for the 2025-2026 year. AYES: Watts, Walton, Brewer, Hunter, Miller, Wong, and Brink. 2 09-16-2025 NOES: None ABSTAIN: None Staff Liaison Bruno provided an overview of the recent board and commission appointment process and the new members appointed to the ABC. It was the consensus.of the Commission to cancel the Regular Meeting of July and proceed with the next Regular Meeting in October. 7. REPORT FROM CITY COUNCIL LIAISON - None 8. REPORT FROM COMMISSIONERS Commissioner Hunter expressed positive sentiments for her experience on the ABC and her interest in rejoining the Commission, when eligible. Commissioner Miller and Chair Brink expressed their appreciation to the Commission, for the work the ABC does, and their respective years serving the City. 12.
