PUBLIC COMMENTS (5-minute time limit per person) Any individual wishing to speak before the Health Commission is limited to five (5) minutes per person, unless waived by the Health Commission. Under the Brown Act, the Health Commission is prohibited from discussing or taking action on any item not listed on the posted agenda. The matter may automatically be referred to staff for appropriate response or action or may be placed on the agenda of a future meeting. CONSENT CALENDAR All matters listed under the Consent Calendar are considered to be routine and can be acted on by one roll call vote. There will be no separate discussion of these items unless members of the Commission, staff, or the public request that a specific item be removed from the Consent Calendar for separate discussion and action. a. HEALTH COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES January 7, 2026 CALL TO ORDER – Chairperson Dr. Clarizio called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE – Commissioner Dr. Ratto ROLL CALL OF COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Dr. Clarizio, Dr. Feng, Dr. Hu, Daniels, Molina, Dr. Ratto, Thomassian ABSENT: None SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM STAFF REGARDING AGENDA ITEMS - None 1. PUBLIC COMMENTS – None REPORTS FROM HEALTH COMMISSIONERS Commissioner Dr. Feng distributed a comprehensive Post-Arcadia Health Fair Briefing packet to all attendees. The packet provided detailed information on the background, objectives, and scope of the eye screening initiative targeted at individuals with diabetes. The primary goal of this screening was to facilitate early detection of diabetic ret inopathy, a common complication that can lead to vision loss if not diagnosed and managed promptly. The briefing materials included insights into the outcomes and lessons learned from the event, serving as a valuable resource for future health initiatives. Notably, Commissioner Dr. Feng reported that although two machines were scheduled for delivery, only one was provided. Despite this, there were a total of 34 people who received eye examinations. Commissioner Molina, a participant and supporter of the event, remarked on its overall success. She shared that her neighbor expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have her eyes checked and grateful for the accessible health screenings. REPORT FROM CITY COUNCIL MEMBER LIAISON Mayor Pro Tem Eileen Wang announced the upcoming City Council Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 20, 2026, emphasizing its importance for city planning. 2. CONSENT CALENDAR a. Regular Meeting Minutes of October 1, 2025. Recommended Action: Approve It was moved by Commissioner Dr. Ratto, seconded by Commissioner Daniels, and unanimously carried on roll call vote to approve Item 2a. AYES: Dr. Clarizio, Dr. Feng, Dr. Hu, Daniels, Molina, Dr. Ratto, Thomassian NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None 3. REGULAR ITEMS a. Health Fair 2026 1. Sponsorship Criteria The consensus was that sponsorship should be restricted to health-related companies. Sponsors will be featured on the 2026 Health Fair banner and program brochure. The sponsorship fee has increased from $2,000 to $2,500 per sponsor. While there is no cap o n the number of sponsors, primary sponsors must be healthcare related. Additional sponsors will be considered later if there is a need for more support. This approach ensures targeted promotion and maintains event focus on health industry partners. 2. Booth Criteria The consensus was that information booths should be restricted to healthcare -related entities, with a fee of $300 per booth. Commissioner Thomassian proposed adding wellness and fitness companies. Commissioner Daniels clarified that the 2026 Health Fair should focus on organizations with a significant presence and service provision within the community of Arcadia. This approach ensures community relevance for the event. Kaiser Permanente and Huntington Hospital have a strong presence and have many patients in the community. b. Citywide Health Seminars for 2026 Starting January 2026, the Citywide Health Seminars will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Arcadia Community Center, 365 Campus Drive. These seminars will take place monthly. The schedule includes: • January 28: Joint Health & Mobility by Dr. Kamran Morassaghi, Orthopedic Surgeon, Keck Medicine of USC Arcadia. • February 25: Preventing Coronary Artery Disease by Dr. Ray Matthews from Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. • March 25: New Frontiers in Diabetes Medication – What You Need to Know by Dr. Brad Kimura, Endocrinology, Kaiser Permanente, Baldwin Park. • April 22: The Aging Colon – Down but Not Out by Dr. Adam Truong, Colorectal Surgeon, Huntington Hospital – Affiliate of Cedars Sinai. • May 27: Mental Health, Growing Old and Happy Whatever the Odds. by Dr. Howard Nguyen, Geriatric Psychiatrist, Kaiser Permanente. • June 24: Fatty Liver by Dr. Michael Lin, Transplant Hepatologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine, Keck School of Medicine at USC. • July 22: Hernia by Dr. Sharon Shiraga, Gastrointestinal Surgeon, Keck School of Medicine, USC. • August , Pain Management, Doctor to be determined. • September, Flu and Vaccinations, Doctor to be determined. • October 28: Breast Cancer Awareness by Dr. Hong Yoon Plurad, Chief of General Surgery, Kaiser Permanente. Recreation Supervisor, Gina Hernandez, will confirm topics for the months of August and September 2026 at the next scheduled meeting. There are no seminars in November and December 2026.
