REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
APRIL 1, 2026
CALL TO ORDER - Chairperson Dr. Clarizio called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

1. PUBLIC COMMENTS - None
REPORTS FROM HEALTH COMMISSIONERS
Commissioner Thomassian reported on the successful seminar held on February 25, 2026,
on Heart Health with approximately 60 attendees. The audience was engaged with many
questions.
Vice -Chairperson Dr. Feng reported that a writeup of the diabetic retinopathy screenings
provided at the 2025 Health Fair was submitted to the New England Journal of Medicine
Catalyst edition, including what the test entails and how individuals should follow up with
their annual screenings or with their healthcare provider. Dr. Feng will keep everyone
updated on the submission.
REPORT FROM CITY COUNCIL MEMBER LIAISON
Council Member Dr. Michael Cao reported the City of Arcadia will celebrate America's 250tn
birthday at Santa Anita Park on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The event is free and will
include a drone show at 9:00 p.m. Free entrance admission registration will be available
through Ticketmaster. Council Member Dr. Cao also stated there are different levels of
sponsorship opportunities available and handed out applications to everyone.
2. CONSENT CALENDAR
a. Regular Meeting Minutes of January 7, 2026.
Recommended Action: Approve
It was moved by Commissioner Dr. Ratto, seconded by Commissioner Dr. Hu and
unanimously carried on roll call vote to approve Item 2a.

3. REGULAR ITEMS
a. 2025 Health Fair Budget Discussion
Director of Recreation and Community Services Department Sara Somogyi (DRCSD) handed
everyone a copy of the Operation Budget breakdown of the Health Fair held on Saturday,
September 20, 2025. There were no questions or comments.
b. Finalize Health Seminar Topics
The Health Commissioners confirmed the monthly health topics from April through October
2026. There will be no seminars in November and December 2026.
• April 22: The Aging Colon, Down But Not Out, Dr. Adam Truong, Colorectal Surgeon,
Huntington Hospital - Affiliate of Cedars Sinai.
• May 27: Mental Health, Growing Old and Happy What Are the Odds, Dr. Howard Nguyen,
Geriatric Psychiatrist, Kaiser Permanente, Baldwin Park Medical Center.
• June 24: Fatty Liver, Dr. Michael Lin, Transplant Hepatologist and Assistant Professor
of Medicine in Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases, Keck School of Medicine at USC.
• July 22: Hernia Explained, What you Need to Know, Dr. Sharon Shiraga, Associate
Professor of Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery, Keck School of Medicine and USC
Arcadia.
• August 26: Back & Leg Pain, When Is surgery The Answer, Dr. Michael Safaee, Assistant
Professor Department of Neurosurgery, Keck School of Medicine at USC.
• September 23: Staying Healthy This Fall, Understanding Flu and the Importance of Adult
Vaccines, Your Best Defense for Flu Season, Dr. Jua Jiang, Internal Medicine Board
Certified Infectious Diseases at USC Arcadia Hospital.
• October 28: Breast Cancer Awareness, Dr. Hong Yoon Plurad, Chief of General Surgery,
Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center.

c. 2026 Citywide Health Fair
DRCSD Somogyi requested clarification from the Health Commissioners regarding eligibility
for participation in the 2026 Health Fair. The following items were also confirmed by the
Health Commissioners:
• Applicants must offer health -related services and serve Arcadia or the San Gabriel
Valley and have a physical business location.
• Flu shots will be administered in the Community Center lobby area.
• Breakfast and lunch will be provided to all sponsors and booth participants.
• Booths will only be assigned once applications and payments are received by the
deadline.
• There will be no keynote speaker this year.
DRCSD Somogyi reminded everyone that an invitation was mailed to every Commissioner to
attend the annual volunteer, board, and commission members dinner on April 16, 2026. The
event will be held at the Arcadia Hilton Hotel and those attending should RSVP by April 3,
2026.
Recreation Supervisor (RS) Gina Hernandez announced her upcoming retirement. Deputy
Director of Recreation and Community Services (DDRCS) Candice Cheung will take over until
the (RS) position is filled.
ADJOURNMENT
Chairperson, Dr. Clarizio, adjourned the meeting at 5:40 p.m. to the next regular meeting on
Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the Recreation and Community Services Department
Conference Room, 375 Campus Drive, Arcadia.
