PROCLAMATION
WhER AS, the American Mosquito Control Association is dedicated to preserving
the public's health and wellbeing through the use of safe environmentally sound mosquito
control programs since 1935; and
WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District follows and
Integrated Vector Management approach that prioritizes mosquito control methods by the
most environmentally conscious and sustainable means; and
WhER AS, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health concluded that Los
Angeles County accounted for 41% of the State of California's West Nile virus cases and
17% of the cases in the United States; and
VIRER EAS, excess numbers of mosquitoes decrease standards of living, diminish
enjoyment of the outdoors, public parks, and playgrounds, hinder outdoor work, and reduce
property values; and
IdIEEREAS, the threat of Aedes mosquitoes in our community increases the risk of
local outbreak of dengue fever, Zika, and yellow fever; and
10REPJK kS, the City of Arcadia, in cooperation with the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito
& Vector Control District, has continued to be involved in protecting public health from
mosquito borne illnesses.
NOW, TREJEFORE, I, Sho Tay, Mayor of the City of Arcadia, do hereby proclaim the
week of July 19, 20211 as: . +

and encourage our residents to be diligent in removing stagnant water from their property, and
eliminating sources that may hold water, as this is the most effective pesticide -free method to
prevent mosquitos in our community.
