Limits of Special Inspection. All special inspection performed in accordance with Los Angeles County Building Code Chapter 17 shall be in addition to the inspections required by the City Building Division. No approval by the special inspector is to be construed as approval to proceed with additional work. 2. Required City Approval. All special inspectors performing inspection work shall complete all necessary applications and be approved by the City Building Division prior to providing any inspection service. PEDESTRIAN PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS 1. Approval and Permit. Pedestrian protection shall be provided in accordance with the requirements of Building Code Chapter 33. The force for pushing or pulling open a door or gate other than fire doors shall be 5 pounds maximum. The force required to open fire doors shall not exceed 15 pounds. a. Interior hinged doors and gates: 5 pounds maximum. b. Sliding or folding doors: 5 pounds maximum. c. Required fire doors: the minimum opening force allowable by the appropriate administrative authority, not to exceed 15 pounds. d. Exterior hinged doors: 5 pounds maximum. Exceptions: 1. Exterior doors to machinery spaces. 2. When it a single location, if one of every eight exterior door leaves is a powered door, other exterior doors at the same location serving the same interior space may have a maximum opening force of 8.5 pounds. The powered leaf shall be located closest to the accessible route. 11 B-404.2 .10: Swinging door and gate surfaces within 10 inches of the finish floor vertically shall have a smooth surface on push side extending the full width of the door. Parts creating horizontal or vertical joints in those services shall be within 1/16 inch of the same plane and be free of sharp or abrasive edges. 11 B - 405 Ramps 11 B-405.2: Slope. Ramps shall have a slope not steeper than 1:12. 11 B-405.3: Cross slope shall not be steeper than 1:48. 11B-405.4: Floor or ground surfaces of ramp runs shall comply with 11B-302 Floor or Ground Surfaces. Landings between ramp runs that change direction shall have a clear landing width of 60" minimum, and shall extend 72" minimum in the direction of downward travel from the upper ramp run. 11 B-405.7 .5: Where doorways are located adjacent to a ramp, doorway maneuvering clearances may overlap the required landing area, however: 1. Doors, when fully open, shall not reduce the required ramp and equipped by more than 3". 2. Doors, and any position, shall not reduce the minimum dimension of the ramp landing to less than 42". 11 B-405.9 .2: A curb 2" high minimum, or a barrier that prevents the passage of a 4" diameter sphere shall be provided, uninterrupted, along the length of the ramp. 11 B-502 Parking spaces Car parking spaces: Shall be 216" long by 108" wide min. RESTROOM NOTES: 1.STRUCTURAL STRENGTH OF GRAB BARS, TUB AND SHOWER SEATS, FASTENERS, AND MOUNTING DEVICES SHALL MEET THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATIONS: a.BENDING STRESS IN A GRAB BAR OR SEAT INDUCED BY THE MAXIMUM BENDING MOMENT FROM THE APPLICATION OF A250-IB POINT LOAD SHALL BE LESS THAN THE ALLOWABLE STRESS FOR THE MATERIAL OF THE GRAB BAR OR SEAT. b.SHEAR STRESS INDUCED IN A GRAB BAR OR SEAT BY THE APPLICATION OF A 250-LB POINT LOAD SHALL BE LESS THAN THE ALLOWABLE SHEAR STRESS FOR THE MATERIAL OF THE GRAB BAR OR SEAT, AND ITS MOUNTING BRACKET OR OTHER SUPPORT IS CONSIDERED TO BE FULLY RESTRAINED, THEN DIRECT AND TORSIONAL SHEAR STRESSES SHALL NOT EXCEED THE ALLOWABLE SHEAR STRESS. c.SHEAR FORCE INDUCED IN FASTENER OR MOUNTING DEVICES FROM THE APPLICATION OF A 250-LB POINT LOAD SHALL BE LESS THAN THE ALLOWABLE LATERAL LOAD OF EITHER THE FASTENER OR MOUNTING DEVICE OR THE SUPPORTING STRUCTURE, WHICHEVER HAS THE SMALLER ALLOWABLE LOAD. d.TENSILE FORCE INDUCED IN A FASTENER BY A DIRECT TENSION FORCE OF A 250-LB POINT LOAD, PLUS THE MAXIMUM MOMENT FROM THE APPLICATION OF A 250-LB POINT LOAD, SHALL BE LESS THAN THE ALLOWABLE WITHDRAWAL LOAD BETWEEN THE FASTENER AND SUPPORTING STRUCTURE. e.GRAB BARS SHALL NOT ROTATE WITHIN THEIR FITTINGS. 2.THE GRAB BAR AND ANY WALL OR OTHER SURFACE ADJACENT TO IT SHALL BE FREE OF ANY SHARP OR ABRASIVE ELEMENTS.
